Renovations are so satisfying!

Wow, how we love each and every renovation project that comes through our studio.

All our spatial planning and design skills need to be applied to achieve both a practical and beautiful result...and within a budget!

With the renovation of House D, we needed to upgrade a drab home, and add value in terms of lifestyle and rands. This young family had a good budget - one that we wanted to utilise with the utmost effectiveness.

The question was, how do you add value without blowing the budget?

And, how do you use design to support this family lifestyle?

We needed an additional bathroom for guests, and with the budget in mine, we didn't want to add unnecessary square metres onto the footprint. The answer was to steal some squares from the existing guest toilet, and add only 3 squares onto the home's footprint.

The result was both a decent-sized guest toilet and guest bathroom (below), perfect for both visitors and overnight guests.

Rearranging the layout of the kitchen and scullery maximised the use of space for these central parts of this family's lifestyle. Adding screens onto the open veranda meant an additional entertainment space, and outdoor kitchen - all under the same roof.
