Wine Farm Guest Cottages

Client:

Sonkop Wine Farm

Year:

2026

This project was all about adding an architectural language where there was none. Essentially these run down existing farm buildings needed to serve as guest cottages, with all the luxuries associated with western Cape wine farms.

We concentrated on adding architectural features and materials that connected the visitor to the surroundings.

The windows (with the custom slatted timber screens for both security and filtering the daylight), have deep timber box frames that lend architectural depth to the facades of the buildings.

A corner wrap-around window in each cottage bring more views and connection to the landscape, along with architectural interest.

This window arrangement allowed us an opportunity to create a moment of pause with a chair and tucked away drinks cabinet. These are the considerations that create little pleasures that feel intentional and almost discovered.

Slate underfoot, honest stone and woven textures ensures a quiet material language that sits comfortably in the landscape.
